And another great event organised by Bro. Dan.

St Albans Church and Abbey the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain. We were met by W. Bro George Laverick, who gave a very in depth tour of the beautiful and breath taking building and pointed out a lot masonic symbolism along the way.

We then had W. Bro Andy Clarke guide us up the tower where we climbed over 200 steps to the highest point of the Abbey where we were able to get a fantastic view of St Albans.

Prior to the tour I was contacted by W. Bro Derrick Stringer, a Mason from Leicestershire who asked if he could come along with us. We, of course were happy to have him come along and he had this to say after.

“I was lucky enough to be allowed a place on the tour organised by the light blue club of Hertfordshire to go to St Albans abbey,
How lucky are you Hertfordshire masons to have such a vibrant, professional, and happy bunch of masons organising your club.
The tour, started off with little potted history about the abbey, give so well by W.Bro George Laverick PPGStB, W.Bro George also works at the abbey, I have never meet until yesterday some one who eats, sleeps, and almost dreams about his work, his knowledge about the abbey was unbelievable.
Its just a pity he supports Sunderland.
Back to the tour…the tower!!!! Wow I just about fitted in the small space called the staircase, was I cream k******** when I finally reached to top, the view to die for, (I felt like dying at this point) I think the person who built these stairways must have been so slim and small and just wanted to get at everyone else. Today my legs are telling me about pains and places I have not seen for years.
But I am happy telling about yesterday’s trip (try and stop me…so proud),
After the tower to places that normal people would not see, or understand with real Masonic marks and symbols. After the tour on to a pub for a well needed pint!!!!
As a Leicestershire mason this was my first visit in to the depths of the Deep South, and hopefully not my last.
When you join freemasonry you call every one your brother, yesterday in this small group of masons (even one EA) I really felt as one.”

The Feedback from our members was exactly the same. All in all, a fantastic day.

As I am sure you know Province held a Family Fun Day in aid of the RMTGB and the FHLBC Had a stall there on the day.

The stall we chose to have was a Human Fruit Machine and my word was it fun. We were commented on being one of the best stalls on the day (as well as definitely being the loudest) it got to a point where people were crowding round us to watch the show. The show being Bro’s Nick, Dan, Tom and Neil making themselves look stupid.

The Kids Loved it, The adults loved it and we managed to raise an amazing £180 that was donated to the RMTGB.

Watch us in Action.

The FHLBC latest event was organised by committee member Bro. Dan O’Connell.

We all met at Royston Masonic Centre where the most of us enjoyed a cup of tea while Bro. Neil walked around Royston town centre playing Pokemon Go.

We then headed over to Royston Cave where we had the usual tour the public would get followed by a further in depth talk from Author, Syliva P Beamon, writer of Royston Cave – Used by Saints or Sinnners.

After the cave we headed back to the centre, first for some Fish and Chips and then for a further talk from Kt Lester Wellington who enlightened us all on the Knights Templar Order, or to use its full title “The United Religious and Military Orders of the Temple, and of St. John of Jerusalem, Palestine, Rhodes and Malta”. After that we were given a brief presentation on the history of the Templar’s and shown some architecture by W. Bro Stephen Andrews.

After the Talks, and after Bro. Dan had got his book signed, most of us headed home but a few stayed to enjoy the Soul Music Festival that was being held right next to the centre that day.

The FHLBC happily organised a tour of Freemasons Hall, Home of the UGLE.

20 Members and friends attended and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We were all taken around the beautiful building by a very knowledgeable guide who really pointed out some fantastic symbolism for the members and told us all some very interesting facts about the history of Freemasonry and the building itself. We was even treated to him playing David Bowie’s – Life On Mars on the Grand Organ which was incredible.

After the tour we all went to a local pub for a few drinks and a spot of food where we all enjoyed each others company for a good few hours.

On the 19th February The Fleet House Light Blues Club held its Inaugural meeting at Mayflower place in Hertingfordbury. The whole event was a great success from start to finish, the brethren all arrived early in order to take full advantage of the bar reception and this created an amazing atmosphere with brethren mingling with brothers they already knew and having the joy of meeting ones they didn’t.

Once the bar reception was over the guests made their way to the dining hall and were served a meal fit for kings. The high spirits and social interaction continued all the way through. Once we had all finished our food Chairman W. Bro Darren Bending started the guest speakers of by introducing himself, the club and its purpose and the rest of the committee. Each committee member in turn got up and introduced themselves and their role in the club. Secretary Bro. Neil Mottershead gave everyone a short story as to how the club came into existence.

Once the Committee was finished W. Bro Darren introduce the guest speakers for the Evening.
W. Bro Brian Tierney gave all the guest a great talk on the history of the Province, next was E. Comp Tim Coles who educated everyone on the future of mentoring for Royal Arch Masonry in Hertfordshire.

The highlight of the evening came from both the Provincial Grand Master R.W. Bro Paul Gower and the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent James Shapley who both gave heartfelt talks on the starts of their Masonic journeys as well as honest and sincere advice for all the brethren on how to make the most of Masonry and how to advance over the years.

Once the talks were done and the last of the cheese had been eaten we all retired to the bar where the atmosphere followed. The evening in whole was extremely successful and all the guests had an incredible evening of meeting new people, great conversation and left having made an extra step in their daily advancement.

On Thursday 3rd December the FHLBC held it’s first Club Social and what a evening it was.

Held at the Snug in Hertford, the social was open to all club members, their friends and families, non masons and masons from anywhere else.

All in all we had a fantastic turn out with over 25 people attending, most were clubs members but a lot of people brought friends, partners and people looking to join Freemasonry. The atmosphere was incredible and everyone spent the evening laughing, joking and getting to know each other.

We will be holding another social soon so keep an eye on our events page.
