FHLBC Founder Nick Tessier initiated his son

On Saturday 9th May, the atmosphere in Temple 10 at Freemasons’ Hall was one of pride, warmth, and celebration as Nick Tessier initiated his 18-year-old son Michael into the British Sub Aqua Lodge.
The meeting was exceptionally well attended, with 71 brethren present in the temple, demonstrating the strong support and camaraderie that exists within the Lodge and the wider Province. Among those attending was Metropolitan Grand Inspector Andy Crawford, alongside numerous newly initiated brethren who attended as part of the Welcome Project initiative.
The British Sub Aqua Lodge is a unique themed Lodge with strong connections to the diving community and incorporates a number of novel diving-related peculiarities within its ceremonies and traditions, giving the Lodge a distinctive character while maintaining the highest standards of Freemasonry. Originally founded for members of the British Sub Aqua Club, the Lodge has evolved over the years to welcome brethren from all areas of diving and watersports, as well as those simply drawn to its warm and friendly atmosphere.
WBro Nick, himself a founder of the FHLBC, was assisted throughout the ceremony by fellow founders Tom Golds acting as IPM and Dan O’Connell acting as Chaplain. The Charge after Initiation was delivered by Sam Brown, while the presentation of the gloves was carried out by Glyn Parry, who had previously taught Michael science at school. Adding further personal significance to the occasion, the Lodge organist, Alex Handley, was also well known to Michael, having tutored him during his GCSE studies.
Not content with simply introducing his son to Freemasonry, Nick also took the opportunity to “strongly persuade” Michael into becoming the FHLBC’s newest member — a move warmly welcomed by the club and one that has helped continue to reduce the average age of the membership!
The ceremony was conducted in a sincere and memorable manner, made even more special by the rare occasion of a father initiating his own son into Freemasonry. Speaking afterwards, WBro Nick Tessier described the evening as “one of the proudest moments of my life.”
The evening was a memorable occasion for all who attended and a wonderful example of Freemasonry’s enduring traditions, family connections, and welcoming culture.
