Bowling in the Bish

Brethren from four Sawbridgeworth-based lodges met in Bishop’s Stortford recently for a relaxed evening of bowling followed by a well-earned curry. The group represented Stortford Lodge, Old Stortfordian Lodge, East Herts Border Lodge and Stuart Lodge, all of which meet at Sawbridgeworth Masonic Centre.

The evening brought together two newly raised Master Masons alongside five other Light Blue Masons of slightly longer standing but all still very much at the early stages of their Masonic journeys. It was a simple night out, but one that perfectly captured what the Fleet House Light Blues Club is about: enabling newer members of the Craft the opportunity to meet and socialise in an easy and informal setting.

The bowling provided plenty of friendly competition and laughter, with Bro. Dan Clark of East Herts Border Lodge emerging as the winner on the night, with both Dan & Graeme Carter (from Stortford Lodge) getting a few strikes. Dan’s performance suggested he might have had a little more experience than the rest of us. Afterwards the group headed for a curry and a drink, where the conversation continued well into the evening, ranging from Masonry to work and family life, and back to Masonry. Barry Ellis from Old Stortfordian Lodge, however, mentioned that he volunteers with Herts Boat Rescue and would be heading off to Anglesey(!) early the following morning for training, so headed off early.

For several attending it was their first official Fleet House Light Blues Club event, making it a great opportunity to meet fellow brethren from in a relaxed setting, commenting on how enjoyable the evening had been, and describing it as “a fun opportunity to meet fellow Light Blue Masons in a relaxed setting,” and “a genuinely excellent evening and a fantastic first FHLBC event.”

Sometimes the simplest gatherings are the best ones. A game of bowling, good food, and a few drinks were all that was needed to bring brethren together and strengthen friendships across the lodges, and we look forward to more Light Blues joining us at future events.
